This is just a tip that some people may find helpful. I like to fish with a strike indicator but have always considered it to be a water depth gage first. Many fishermen put a strike indicator on and fish all day, all depths of water with it in the same place. I like to use an indicator that can be adjusted to suit the water depth. Even when fishing in the same place I will change the distance of the indicator to the fly because of the various water depths in a given spot. Some fish will be able to take food at a given depths while some places behind rocks and other places will take food at deeper or shallower depths. By varying the depth of the fly to the indicator you will make the food more available. in pools you can fish shallow or very deep using a adjustable indicator also.
