A buddy and his son and I went to Plainfield Pond today.
The ice was 5 to 6 inches thick.
After we were there about 45 minutes, an Environmental Police Officer walked out to check our licenses. It's the first time I've ever seen an EPO during icefishing season, and only the third or fourth time I've seen one in Massachusetts at all.
The fishing was only so-so, but at least we didn't get skuned. We had a few false flags, and lost a few more jigging, but did land three dink pickerel (the biggest was 15 inches long).
The mediocre fishing was more than made up for by the fantastic food though. We had lamb chops, kimchi, pierogis, hot soup and coffee, and apples. Plus a fantastic sunset.
All in all, a great day.
