Hey Dan- How are you?
It seems like the organized meetings are on an indefinite hiatus. I think it had just been a busy year for a lot of people, and soliciting speakers and and scheduling meetings took a back seat. I know as my kids get older and more involved, and my company grows, I have less and less time for extras. I haven't seen many of the familiar faces around the bulletin board that much either (e.g. Charlie, Joe, Kim, Jim). I'd like to think that we could all remain in touch, at least electronically. I still have access to meeting space in Pittsfield and Springfield (and now Worcester too!), if anybody has a reason or desire to meet formally or informally.
I have only been out fishing one or two times this season (with a few more outings cancelled due to the rain). I'd love to get out more, and definitely prefer fishing with somebody. Keep me posted on when you're going out, and there is a chance i could be free.

I moved to this area (Noho) a year ago and would like to be involved with a group of like minded flyfishers. I live for this sport and have met flyfishers on the Westfield but nobody knows of this group. It would be great to get this thing going again. BTW, the Westfield has been great over the last month.

A hard year all around. I hope we can keep it alive on this board, hoping for the day when a some folks decide to put together something more formal. Meanwhile, lets keep in touch and if somebody wants to bang together an impromptu expedition to some local river or some other kind of get together, then the forum makes it possible. Kim AgMD

Like most of the rest of you, during the summer I am out straight with a wife and 2 girls 4 years old and 2 years old and a job that keeps me crazy busy in the summer, but I would be up for an event in the fall or some fly tying get togethers in the winter. If need be I would enjoy having people come to the Wahconah Country Club where I work for some fly tying on a week night in the winter. If you see a red Subaru Outback at the Deerfield or Westfield river with a Berkshire Fly fishing and a Trout Unlimited sticker on the back window and a Mass Trout license plate feel free to stop me and talk about some fishing.

It's hard to keep any organization going when the movers and shakers become inactive. This one's no different.
Admittedly, folks have much on their plates these days and time is limited.
As for me, I've only been out a couple of times and caught a few good fish. Problem is, I find wading more difficult each year, and with the river being consistently higher thanks to all the rain, I'm not incentivized. Maybe later or in the fall.

Hey Guys,
JLIBS here. It's been a while since some of us have caught up. I hope all is well. My family and I sold our house in Great Barrington and we moved into a new house back in Eastern, MA this past week in the town of Sudbury. There is some trout fishing here, but not like in the Berkshires. I'll still be heading back frequently and all I need is an invitation to meet up for us to get together. The Westfield is a reasonable drive, but I can get anywhere.
Regarding the club, as we all know, the club is what we make of it. The people responding to this thread are some of the main folks who have been the consistently involved members since the beginning. The fact is that we had some terrific volunteers organizing the club, generous volunteer guest speakers, fly tying nights, trips, demonstrations, etc. and the attendance was very inconsistent despite all efforts to draw a large consistent audience. We all know this. If anyone has any ideas about how to motivate members and get folks to show up to events/meetings, please share the thoughts. Organizing the meetings and outings are possible, but we need the involvement from the other members in the form of showing up. This is not new. I think Charley should take over the organizing! You can do it, CTROY!
I have met some remarkable fly fishers (and great people aside from fly fishing) through the club and I have learned immensely. FLYMANDAN has taught me about antique reels. JSKOWRON has taught me how tie and how to fish a size 12 EHC in every way possible. AGMD has taught me about reels, boo, fuel flotant, etc. CTROY has shown me areas on the Housy and how to tie certain patterns. Many other members have made great impressions on me too. Thanks to Gene who invited me to his house to show me how to tie my first fly many years ago now, and for Jim to mentor me on making my own Dickerson taper bamboo fly rod starting with a 12 ft culm. Where else can we get exposed to this?
Who is going to take the baton and get it going?
Let me know when we should meet up?
JLIBS
