Hey all, I'm a high school English teacher in New York, and I recently had some of my 12th grade students start their own blogs. For the sake of putting my money where my mouth is, I decided to start one too. It's simple and somewhat juvenile, but I thought some of you folks might get a kick out of it as it's devoted to flyfishing. Feel free to comment either here or there. I've one caveat. I am no Hemingway. therustyspinner.blogspot.com/Best, Mike D. battenkill.tripod.com

Mike,
The blog is nice. Two year old triplets? Good luck with that!

Dear Mike,
I think I noticed a couple of run on sentences and a dangling participle. How can we address this? Should you meet me and Jeff on the Housatonic in Lee in the upcoming weeks to wet a line?

JLIBS, Run-on sentences and a dangling participle? Maybe I am Hemingway. Regardless, I claim any mistakes in grammar, spelling, and punctuation are stylistic choices. Either way, I think I should meet you on the Housatonic. Show me some water, and you can correct my grammar all you like. Thanks for giving the blog a look. The funny thing is that I'm not sure I know what a dangling participle is!!!! ;D -Hopefully I gave you a chuckle. I will not correct your grammar (like my wife corrects mine).
Sure, let's meet on the Housy. We'll get JSKOWRON (old crank) and possibly some of the other guys out on the water.
joshliberman@hotmail.com email and suggest a date/time if you're interested.

Reading on your website, the blog was free of dangling participles. Jlibs- Let me school you on the ways of of the dangling participle, just as I school you on the ways of the size 12 EHC!). The word " Reading" in the phrase above is a dangling participle. The implication of such a sentence is that the the subject is the writer the of the sentence, and it was he/she that was doing the reading. However, as written, " blog" is the subject and was doing the reading. Thus " Reading" is dangling, as it is unclear who the is doing the reading. (Man, I need to go fishing!!)

I think Mike should design a new fly, name it the "dangling participle", and bring it to the Housey.

Jlibs, I am absolutely interested in fishing the Housy. The river is entirely foreign to me, and new water is always exciting. I'll drop you a line when I see my schedule loosening up just a bit. Bartman, "dangling participle" is a fantastic name for a fly. I'll get cranking and let you know when I come up with something. In fly tying terms, dangling is easy, but the participle requires a little more imagination. Mike D. battenkill.tripod.comtherustyspinner.blogspot.com

RodKilla, we'll fish the Housy soon when you are ready. -Lots of good brown trout water.
JSKOWRON, those sound like fighting words coming from a guy who looks like a cross between Robinson Caruso, Mr. Howell and Paul Bunyan. Maybe you can try to show RodKilla how you fish a size 12 elk hair caddis regardless of conditions, time of year, flows, hatch, etc,..even through the ice. -Good luck!
