Hello all....I've been lurking here for a while but haven't had much to contribute or ask to date. Nice board. Today I have a question that I hope someone (or a few) can help me out with. I must spend the day in the Springfield, MA area on Saturday and will have a few hours to kill. Are there any closeby fishing opportunities for this time of year? I fish the Deerfiled when the flows are right, and the Swift and in NH a lot. I have never fished anywhere in the Springfiled area. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's supposed to be fairly mild on Saturday.

Bmik,
The Westfield River is fairly close but is running high. I assume you'll be wading so be advised. The better trout water is above the City of Westfield, but I think you'll be hard-pressed to bring up any fish this time of year. Water temps last summer were in the upper 70's and the October washout made the river unfishable-not sure if any fall stocking even occurred. If you find yourself back this way in a few months drop another note and I may be able to put you on a couple spots. Good luck.

The Conneticut River has some neat spots to fish. The Shad fishermen have some of there spots highlighted on the web www.newenglandshad.com/There's no shad in the river now, but there are other species to target. Also the Y pool of the Swift is pretty close. And from what I hear, a bunch of land locks and lakers washed out of the lake and are sitting at the Y pool.
